Ran down to the southern canyons this time for an overnighter with the Ed Bosiowski charter. The troll bite was pretty good and we put 10 longfin up to 50lbs in the boat before dark. On the chunk the big yellowfin showed up around 2am, and the guys went 7 for 7 on 80lb fish. With 17 in the box we had enough to skip the troll in the am and went in at first light.

Fished with the Brian Bertch Charter in the Hudson Canyon Sunday-monday. The troll bite seems to have improved as we trolled 4 longfin before setting up for the night. The chunk was OK and we had a couple of shots of fish during the night boating two big yellowfins about 80# each and another 4 longfins and breaking off another three or four fish, for a total of 10 in the box. We also picked up a couple of nice sized mahi on spinning tackle.

After being blown out last year we finally got the perfect weather for the Bill Nagy party. We fished in the Hudson, and as expected the troll bite was very slow. Setting up in the evening we had squid and bait right away, but no tuna. At 2AM after no bites except bluesharks, and no reads we pulled the anchor and found a new spot. We had the fish reads there but had to work hard to get them going, finally started them on diamond jigs at 430 and we had a nice pick until sunup boating 10, 50# longfin on jigs and squid baits, losing a few more. We stopped on the way home and put three tilefish to 18lbs in the boat as well.

Ran back to the Hudson with the Jeff Damato charter. Lost a big fish on the troll and that was it until we set up for the chunk. We got our first bite around 9 pm and had a steady pick all night boating 17 yellowfin to 90lbs and a few longfin albacore mixed in. Did some tilefishing in the morning and boated 11 tilefish to 17lbs.

Fishing trip on Saturday with Jack Singh,Tom Terranova, Tommy jr, and Ray Wong. Started out fluke fishing from Long branch to Seabright, it was a steady pick of seabass with a few fluke mixed in but nice sized fluke 3-5lbs. After running over heavy bluefish reads a couple of times we put on jigs and had some fun catching 6-10lb blues. We had about an hour of constant action, and got back to fluking. We started catching fluke better in the afternoon with a little breeze, with some nicer knucklehead seabass mixed in. Wound up with 11 keeper fluke to 6lbs,38 keeper seabass, and 11 bluefish.

We had the Ray Wong party out today, and started off striper fishing off monmouth beach. The action was steady in the AM, and we picked 7 striped bass to 26lbs and 34 bluefish to 16lbs. After the morning bite had slowed we stopped on a wreck for some bottom fishing. It was a decent pick and we boated 6 keeeper blackfish including a 9.5 and 8.5lbr. We also boated 26 keeper seabass and threw back over a dozen shorts.

Took out the Mark Sherry Charter for stripers today. We weren’t overly optimistic considering the last few days have been tough, but clamming off sandy hook produced over a dozen shorts and 3 keepers in the 15lb range. Some bluefish were also caught. This fishing should pick up by the weekend, and the next full moon.

Dive trip one tank, went to a wreck SE of SRI, and found the brown water that has been around for 2 days. 10' below the surface the brown water turned green and we had 15' visibility. Plenty of nice fish on the wreck but they are mostly in the holes, still not swimming around. Bottom temp 45. The guys speared 3 togs from 8 to 10.7 lbs and a dozen nice seabass.

05/26/2007- Manny Canales reports:
Fishing trip with the Vincent Belgiona charter, we trolled spoons for stripers but found the big alligator blues in 60' off asbury park. We switched over to jigging and caught over 60 blues from 8-17lbs, releasing the majority.

The Posterino charter had a dive trip and fished on the wrecks during the surface interval. Hit 3 wrecks east of Shark River in 80-85' and all had nice seabass on them. They did bite if you put the bait right in front of them, the larger fish are all hiding in holes, and not swimming very much. wound up with 40 big seabass and a couple of Tog.
